Nice tool for Roku Developers

Hailing all Roku Developers!  FLI has developed a snazzy, very simple tool to make life a bit easier for all of you.

In order to use this, you’ll need to have enabled the development mode on your Roku DVP.  In order to do this, from the home screen, enter the following sequence on your Roku remote: Home 3x, Up 2x, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right. Do that correctly, and you’ll be taken to a screen that asks you if you want to enable the Roku development installer.  Choose enable, and allow the box to reboot.

Once the box starts back up go into Roku Player Settings>player info and take note of the box’s IP address.

Download the Side Loader here: http://www.floatleftinteractive.com/downloads

Open the folder and find the rokusideloader.bat file.  You’ll need to make a few edits here.

1. Replace every occurrence of “youpackage.zip” with the your pkg’s name.

2. Replace http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/ with the IP of your Roku box.

Once these changes are made, you can drop all the items in this folder into the root folder of where you pkg’s source files are located.  Run the batch file and this will zip up the images, manifest, and source elements in this folder and then push to your Roku box.  You’ll see a cmd window open briefly and then, if it’s pushed without and problems, you should see your channel appear on the far right of your screen.

Feel free to add comments if there are any issues – ENJOY!
